What benefits come from Iyengar Yoga practice?

Often people say they arrive at class tired after a busy day but leave refreshed even though they have worked their bodies. This is because the asanas stretch and extend the muscles, open the joints and massage and stimulate the inner organs, circulation, nerves in a way which is not exhaustive but both energising and relaxing to body and mind. Regular practice brings vitality, flexibility, strength, concentration, self-confidence and mental calm. Many stresses, strains, aches and pains can be prevented, overcome, or managed, and a firm foundation for health, contentment and a more fulfilling life is established. We can then hopefully live more harmoniously with each other, the environment and ourselves.
